Calahonda Area Guide:

Calahonda, also known locally as Sitio de Calahonda, is located on the main coastal road between Fuengirola and Marbella, within the area known as Mijas Costa, only a 25 minute drive from Málaga International airport.

The resort of Calahonda is one of the most popular places to live on the Costa del Sol, due to its thriving expat community, long sandy beaches and wide range of amenities including banks, restaurants, bars, night clubs, cafés, supermarkets, shops, ‘El Zoco’ shopping centre, service providers, schools and sports facilities, including some of the finest golf courses. In addition the cost of living in Calahonda is considered to be lower than in other areas such as Marbella, which has the reputation for attracting the rich and famous. Here you can find plenty of amenities to suit all tastes and budgets.

Calahonda has become a favourite destination not only for Spanish residents but for expats looking to retire or young families looking to relocate. You’ll find an eclectic mix of Spanish, British, Scandinavian, German and other northern Europeans.

Much of the property in the area was built in the 1960’s. It is home to many of the original timeshare property developments, which were usually made up of apartments and town houses both on the beach side and mountain side of the main road. Since then many beautiful villas have been built, both traditional and super modern in style. Today it retains its charm as a safe and vibrant place to live or visit on holiday. It’s popularity as a holiday destination has grown year on year, with hundreds of tourists arriving each year to enjoy the beaches and amenities it offers.

With so many homes in a relatively small area, it is a resort that we receive many calls from owners, renters or holiday makers, who have either locked themselves out, lost their keys or are in need of additional security. There is also a good turnover of property sales in Calahonda, so as the leading Calahonda locksmiths, we are often called out to change locks for the new owners.
